About The Position

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is recruiting for its 2027 Summer Internship Program. This program offers talented students valuable experience by working on projects that support business areas and impact the national economy. The program also provides insight into potential future entry-level positions and exposure to various areas across the division and bank. All interns will experience networking within the Bank and the Federal Reserve System, attend various events including Leadership Q&As and development-oriented sessions, participate in a dedicated intern mentor program, and gain exposure to Bank operations and mission-driven work. The Research Division conducts economic research and provides information and economic education services for policymakers, researchers, teachers, students, and the public. It also supports the St. Louis Fed president's role on the Federal Open Market Committee. The division's primary goal is to provide world-class monetary policy leadership, economic research, and trusted tools for economic knowledge. Specific intern positions are available in: RESEARCH: Involves researching data sources and methodologies of macroeconomic data series, compiling anecdotal information from business contacts, creating charts and tables of economic indicators, conducting statistical and econometric data analysis using programs like STATA, Matlab, and R, and writing summary reports. ECONOMIC EDUCATION: Involves working with staff to produce and update economic education content, align content with national and state standards, update the zone’s e-mail database of educators, host educator professional development workshops, and support website development initiatives. This role allows for testing and developing K-12 curriculum materials. DIGITAL HISTORY & ARCHIVES: Involves gaining experience in historical document research, evaluating online resources, professional writing, and library and metadata skills. Tasks include producing content for the FRASER collection, developing research guides on economics and finance topics, and learning basic automation with Python and Microsoft Power Apps.

Requirements

Must have a 3.5+ overall GPA
Undergraduate Student
Rising college junior or senior preferred
Candidate for bachelor’s degree in economics, business (finance), education, library and information science, or related field
Demonstrated interest and strong proficiency in (a) math/statistics or (b) education.
Excellent Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat skills.
Interest in monetary policy, macroeconomics, and data is a must.
Demonstrated analytical/critical thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work independently while managing numerous projects and work processes

Responsibilities

Research data sources and methodologies of macroeconomic data series.
Compile anecdotal information from business contacts in the 8th district.
Create charts and tables of economic indicators.
Conduct statistical and econometric data analysis in programs such as STATA, Matlab, and R.
