Research Intern - Foundational Models & Agent

Microsoft•Redmond, WA
•Onsite

About The Position

The Microsoft Applied Sciences Group incubates disruptive technologies for Microsoft’s next-generation hardware products and works on projects shaping how computers and other devices perceive users and their environments. Operating like a startup within Microsoft, the group collaborates closely with research and product teams to bring new experiences to market. Many projects use machine learning and span the process from ideation through shipping. As a Research Intern, you will design and lead implementation of state-of-the-art language and multimodal models to transform the Windows experience, collaborating with experts across the organization to turn research ideas into products with real-world impact. This is a hands-on role. The 12-week internship pairs interns with mentors. Interns collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the research community. Research internships are available year-round and typically begin in summer.

  • Experience with Python and deep learning libraries.
  • Desire to learn to create reusable software libraries and packages.
  • Experience with dataset curation, data generation using prompting with state-of-the-art LLMs, and/or model alignment.
