This internship provides an introduction to clinical research within the Department of Neurology, focusing on the development of blood biomarkers, MRI, and clinical outcomes database for bioinformatics for stroke cerebrovascular disease research. Students will work on projects as part of the SkRIPT program, which incorporates team science and career development for trainees interested in stroke. The role involves learning about human subject protection, HIPAA, research compliance, IRB review, chart review, data entry, manuscript writing, data analysis, stroke pathophysiology, brain imaging, and neuroanatomy. The internship has a 1-year timeline: 1 month for literature review, 7 months for chart review and REDCap entry, the last 3 months for manuscript writing, and 1 month for presentation development. Career development mentorship, including CV building and pre-med/pre-residency neurology prep lectures, is provided throughout.
