About The Position

This internship provides an introduction to clinical research within the Department of Neurology, focusing on stroke and cerebrovascular disease research. The intern will contribute to the development of a database for blood biomarkers, MRI, and clinical outcomes for bioinformatics research. The role is part of the SkRIPT program, which emphasizes team science and career development for trainees interested in stroke research. The intern will gain knowledge in human subject protection, HIPAA, research compliance, IRB review, chart review, record keeping, data entry, manuscript writing, data analysis, stroke pathophysiology, brain imaging, and neuroanatomy.

Requirements

  • Understanding of human subject protection.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA.
  • Understanding of research compliance.
  • Familiarity with IRB review processes.
  • Ability to perform chart review.
  • Skill in keeping accurate and detailed records and logs.
  • Proficiency in data entry.
  • Basic understanding of manuscript writing.
  • Basic understanding of data analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of stroke pathophysiology.
  • Basic knowledge of brain imaging.
  • Basic knowledge of neuroanatomy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of blood biomarkers, MRI, and clinical outcomes database for bioinformatics for stroke cerebrovascular disease research.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Perform chart reviews and data entry using RedCap.
  • Contribute to manuscript writing.
  • Develop presentations.
  • Participate in career development activities including CV building, pre-med and pre-residency neurology prep lectures, presentation skills development, and learning the basics of project development and critical thinking for research project development.
