The ClickHouse PhD Research Internship Program offers doctoral students the opportunity to pursue ambitious, collaborative research with ClickHouse Labs researchers and engineers. Interns explore research questions and technologies in databases, systems, and data infrastructure that may benefit both the research community and ClickHouse. Work is shaped around mutual research interests and may build on a student’s university research, prototype, or system. The program is research-focused, mentor-supported, and intentionally flexible rather than a highly structured engineering internship. The high-level problem area and expectations should be defined several months before the internship begins. Interns work closely with ClickHouse Labs, engage with ClickHouse’s open-source technology and engineering community, share findings, and contribute to the broader research community. Work may lead to continued academic research, open-source contributions, publications, co-authored papers, thesis advising, or other forms of collaboration after the internship. The internship lasts approximately 10–12 weeks, with flexibility for academic calendars and research needs. It typically takes place in summer, beginning approximately June 1. Opportunities are available across the US and Europe, subject to role and employment requirements; the program is remote-first. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a monthly stipend.
