2027 Summer Intern, PhD, Research, Perception Foundation Models
About The Position
The 2027 Summer Research Intern will work with Waymo’s AI Foundations team, which develops machine learning solutions for open problems in autonomous driving and supports safe operation across cities and driving conditions. The team’s research areas include reinforcement learning, learning from demonstration, generative modeling, Bayesian inference, hierarchical learning, and robust evaluation, and it collaborates with other research teams in Alphabet. The intern will contribute to research through machine-learning experiment design, modeling and iteration, and evaluation and interpretation of results. The internship is hybrid and onsite. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the role is filled.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field.
- Familiarity with modern machine-learning techniques, such as transformers and diffusion models.
- Familiarity with at least one machine-learning framework, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Proficiency in Python.
Nice To Haves
- Evidence of research output, such as top-tier publications.
- Exposure to robotics, perception, or autonomous-vehicle technology.
- Familiarity with world modeling.
