Research Intern – Self-evolving Multimodal Foundation Models
About The Position
Sony Corporate Technology Center America, a branch of Sony AI, is a remotely distributed organization across the U.S. and Canada. Sony AI pursues the mission of using AI to unleash human creativity and works closely with Sony business units, including Sony Interactive Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Sony Music Entertainment. Sony is seeking research interns to conduct fundamental and applied research focused on next-generation vision foundation models developed responsibly. Interns will develop efficient and effective methodologies and prototype solutions, working with scientists and engineers on challenges involving self-evolving vision foundation models, vision-language models, unified models, content management, automatic model optimization, and deployment on cloud and edge. The work may lead to research publications and improvements to customer experiences. The target hourly rate is $50.00, and the intern is eligible for overtime.
Requirements
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a master's or Ph.D. degree in computer science or a related field.
- Be self-motivated and capable of proposing and implementing innovative ideas.
- Solid presentation and communication skills for internal and external audiences.
- Publications or expertise in compact foundation-model development and deployment; examples include influential open-source projects or publications at top conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML, or ACL.
- Solid coding skills in Python, PyTorch, or similar tools.

Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental and innovative development in low-cost yet powerful foundation models, automatic model optimization, and deployment on cloud and edge.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, and product teams to translate research into practical solutions, leveraging foundation models, RSI, and agentic approaches where appropriate.
- Contribute to library and tool development to support business, or publish influential research in top-tier conferences and journals.
- Develop efficient and effective methodologies and prototype solutions for foundation-model research.
