Research Intern - Machine Learning at MSR NYC
About The Position
Microsoft Research New York City is seeking Research Interns in machine learning and artificial intelligence across all areas of machine learning. Current group focus areas include reinforcement learning for language models, the science of deep learning, post-training, model interpretability and steering, reasoning, recursive self-improvement, and test-time scaling. Applicants with a mix of theoretical and empirical backgrounds are encouraged. The 12-week internship pairs interns with mentors. Interns collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, contribute to the research community, and gain research and professional experience. Research internships are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer. Interns are expected to be physically located at their manager’s Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a doctorate degree program in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
- Must be physically located at the manager’s Microsoft worksite for the duration of the internship.
- Submit at least two reference letters, a cover letter, and relevant work or research samples.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with deep learning and language modeling frameworks such as PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, and vLLM.
- A mix of theoretical and empirical research background.
Responsibilities
