Research Instructor - Full-Time

University of PittsburghPittsburgh, PA
Onsite

About The Position

A Research Instructor position is available in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, within the laboratory of Dr. Cheng Zhang. The research focuses on the structure and pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), specifically investigating their allosteric modulation and the development of novel GPCR allosteric modulators. The role involves utilizing approaches such as GPCR expression and purification, cell-based signaling assays, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) with the long-term objective of translating these mechanisms into novel therapeutics. The incumbent will also be encouraged to apply for grants and develop an independent research program.

Requirements

  • PhD in biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Demonstrated expertise in protein biochemistry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in structural biology.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the allosteric modulation of GPCRs.
  • Develop novel GPCR allosteric modulators.
  • Perform GPCR expression and purification.
  • Conduct cell-based signaling assays.
  • Utilize cryo-EM for structural analysis.
  • Translate research mechanisms into novel therapeutics.
  • Apply for grants.
  • Develop an emerging, complementary research program.
