About The Position

The Roujeinikova Lab is seeking a motivated Level A research-only academic to contribute to an ARC-funded project investigating the structure and function of bacterial chemotaxis receptors and the bacterial flagellar motor. This is a fixed-term contract position available until 31 December 2026. It offers an opportunity to conduct independent and collaborative research, develop advanced laboratory methodologies, and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements

An Honours degree, progress towards a PhD, or a completed Doctoral qualification (PhD) in structural biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or a closely related discipline.
Extensive hands-on experience with method development for protein expression and purification (specifically recombinant protein production in E. coli).
Demonstrated experience with one or more techniques for studying protein-ligand interactions (e.g., X-ray crystallography, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), or Fluorescence Anisotropy).
A proven track record of refereed research publications, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical abilities with a demonstrated capacity to solve complex problems using innovation and discretion.
A proven ability to work collegially and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary research team.

Responsibilities

Conducting advanced laboratory research and experimental design within the project framework.
Producing and contributing to high-quality conference papers, seminars, and peer-reviewed publications.
Executing recombinant protein production and analysing protein-ligand interactions.
Providing advice and informal guidance to postgraduate research students within the lab.
Participating in departmental meetings, research seminars, and limited administrative/teaching duties related to the project.
