About The Position

The Atukorale Laboratory, part of UMass Amherst Biomedical Engineering, is seeking a Research Fellow. This position will be based at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. The role involves performing scientific studies, managing laboratory operations, mentoring junior researchers, and preparing scientific manuscripts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or closely related fields is preferred.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in normal and emergency situations.

  • Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or closely related fields is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scientific studies and collect/analyze data involving nanomaterials synthesis and chemistry, materials characterization, mammalian cell culture, molecular biology assays, animal husbandry, animal surgery, animal imaging, and animal treatment studies.
  • Responsible for fundamental laboratory management, including quality control of reagents, ordering of reagents and supplies, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers for laboratory maintenance and general running operations.
  • Supervise laboratory members, including undergraduate researchers, and provide mentorship on an individualized basis.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts for submission and navigate the peer-review process.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
