About The Position

This position reports to the Manager of The Ohio State University’s Eastern Agricultural Research Station and assists with farm operations related to beef cattle and sheep production. The role involves performing animal operations specific to beef cattle and sheep production, including feeding, calving, and moving animals in working facilities and pastures within a research environment. The assistant will also help with animal health care, manure handling and application to fields, and loading/transporting animals using a truck and trailer. General operations include grounds maintenance, facilities and machinery maintenance, and operating farm equipment such as tractors and mowers. Responsibilities also include cleaning, repairing, and adjusting equipment and work areas, as well as assisting with recording data and collecting samples. The role may require performing similar duties at other OSU locations and working adjusted schedules according to operational needs. This position is located in Jackson, Ohio, and is a temporary, fixed-term appointment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 0 years of relevant experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Manager of The Ohio State University’s Eastern Agricultural Research Station, assists with farm operations related to beef cattle and sheep production; performs animal operations specific to beef cattle and sheep production (feeding, calving, moving animals in working facilities and pastures, and other operations in a research environment).
  • Assists with animal health care, manure handling and application to fields. Assists with loading and transporting animals to other OSU campuses and market destinations with truck and trailer. Assists with general operations including grounds maintenance, facilities and machinery maintenance. Operates tractors, mowers of various sizes, hay harvesting and other farm equipment. Cleans, repairs, and adjusts equipment and work areas.
  • Assists with recording data and collecting samples. May be required to perform similar duties at other OSU locations. Other duties as assigned. Works adjusted schedule according to operational needs.
