About The Position
The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Barn Assistant position to perform general construction and maintenance of farm equipment and facilities that support routine care for animals. This position is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, being around farm animals, and all the tough jobs involved in farm work. The formal AU title for this position is Tech, Ag-Vet Med.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license upon hire.
- Ability to obtain a pesticide license may be required in specific positions.
Nice To Haves
- Able to repair and construct fences.
- Tractor operation.
- Experience in hay management and harvesting.
- Experience in care and well-being of livestock.
Responsibilities
- Performs general construction and maintenance of farm equipment, structures, and grounds, including, but not limited to the following: Fences, stalls, barns, roads, ponds, farm buildings and lawn/field care specifically repair and construction of fences.
- Perform routine tractor operations.
- May handle pesticides, herbicides, and hazardous chemicals on a team or alone.
- Provides routine animal care such as daily feeding, watering, cleaning/sanitation of stalls and barns, rotational grazing, monitoring health and safety of animals and transportation of animals to the proper location.
- Performs other duties as assigned
