About The Position

The Department of Pharmacology and Immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is inviting applications for a research-track Assistant Professor position to serve as an analytical and translational researcher experienced in single cell and spatial mass spectrometry imaging of multiple biomolecules associated with human diseases. The candidate will be expected to maintain an extramurally funded research program and to teach in the Department of P&I graduate program, offering their expertise to related research cores (e.g. the Digestive Disease Research Center Core for Proteomics and the I3 Umbrella Omics Core). Located within the Department of Pharmacology and Immunology, a large multi-faculty facility equipped with the latest mass spectrometry instrumentation exists for proteomic, glycomic, and metabolomic/lipidomic analysis, funded by multiple federal grants and institutional support. MUSC is a premier academic medical center located in Charleston, SC, with nationally recognized programs in biomedical research, informatics, and health innovation.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biomedical Science, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related quantitative field; or an MD degree with appropriate technical education and experience.
  • Mastery in practical applications of mass spectrometry imaging, glycomics, lipidomics, metabolomics and proteomics, as well as data processing, biostatistics and AI technologies.
  • Foundational understanding of current mass spectrometry platforms, especially MALDI-TOF based instruments used for slide arrays and tissue profiling.
  • Experience in multi-omic single cell analysis of immune cells.
  • Foundational understanding of glycosylation pathways in living systems.
  • Established track record in identifying and evaluating biomolecules as disease biomarkers.
  • Ability to integrate and analyze large scale multi-omic data sets.
  • Knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, multivariate analysis, spatial statistics.
  • Demonstrated experience of teaching biomedical topics in graduate or medical courses.

  • Research experience of a minimum of two years at a post-doctoral level.
