About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Research Deputy Administrator. Under the direction of the Area Administrator and Strategic Planning Manager, the Research Deputy Administrator provides critical support to the Office of Strategy, Sustainability & Research. This role coordinates high-priority research studies, oversees data collection and analysis, and ensures regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include coaching research staff, developing team skills, and acting on behalf of the Administrator to maintain operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will utilize tools like SAS and SQL to interpret inmate population trends, ensuring compliance with state and federal mandates while reviewing OSPB and JLBC recommendations. By collaborating with executive leadership and external stakeholders, and delivering professional statistical presentations, this position maintains the integrity of the agency's data reporting.

Requirements

  • Reviewing data-created reports, using data insight to support business cases, planning and decisions

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of work experience in business management systems, inmate program creation or business intelligence tools
  • Two (2) years of work experience in adult corrections, or a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Computing or closely related field

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees the Research Unit and associated staff within ADCRR to include oversight of the agency’s forecasted bed plan, which is used for planning and budgeting purposes
  • Collects financial and historical data to identify trends in inmate population, conducts analysis of potential future legislation, projections programs costs, and prepares this information for reports and management presentations
  • Makes recommendations for current and future agency programs and improving business operations
  • Oversees the extraction, preparation, and analysis of data for business alignment and legal compliance of dozens of reports mandated through the Arizona Revised Statutes, General Appropriation Act, or other legal requirements
  • Attends meetings with internal and external partners on matters relating to work assignments
  • Drives on State business statewide
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position
