About The Position

The Cambridge-Guernsey County Health Department is seeking a community-focused leader to serve as our Administrator/Deputy Health Commissioner. This executive leadership position is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the health department while advancing public health initiatives that improve the health and well-being of Guernsey County residents. The Administrator/Deputy Health Commissioner works closely with the Health Commissioner and Board of Health to provide leadership in public health accreditation, strategic planning, community health improvement, grant development, emergency preparedness, operational management, and organizational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (MPH, MHA, MPA, MBA, Nursing, or related field) preferred but not required.
  • Experience with PHAB accreditation.
  • Experience leading CHA/CHIP and strategic planning.
  • Experience with grant writing and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations and administration of the health department.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for departmental programs, services, and staff.
  • Lead strategic planning, policy development, organizational improvement initiatives, and performance management activities.
  • Manage departmental budgets, grants, fiscal oversight, and resource allocation efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local public health laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and agency policies.
  • Represent the health department at community meetings, coalitions, public events, and governmental functions.
  • Serve as Acting Health Commissioner in the absence of the Health Commissioner when designated.
  • Lead public health accreditation efforts.
  • Lead implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the department's Strategic Plan.
  • Lead Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) processes.
  • Collaborate with community partners to address public health priorities.
  • Lead grant research, grant writing, grant administration, facilitation, and reporting activities.
  • Monitor program outcomes and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Provide leadership for emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners.
