Research Data Librarian

About The Position

The Research Data Librarian will partner with MIT researchers and campus communities to promote responsible data management, open scholarship, and reproducible research. This role will provide guidance on data stewardship, storage, repositories, data protection, licensing, and emerging areas such as computation-intensive and AI-ready datasets. The librarian will also develop educational programs and resources, collaborate with Libraries and Institute partners to improve data services and infrastructure, and assess user needs to inform service improvements.

Requirements

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, or comparable academic credentials and relevant data management experience.
  • Understanding of research data management and Open Research and Scholarship.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice in data use and preservation.
  • Knowledge of funding agency requirements for data management, preservation, and access.
  • Familiarity with standards and tools supporting data sharing and reproducible research.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including workshop development and delivery.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, teamwork, service orientation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of research-related regulations and preservation practices.
  • Familiarity with data structures, machine learning, data retrieval, and AI-ready datasets.
