About The Position

This is a full-time Research Data Abstractor II position within the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Research team at Carolinas Medical Center. The role involves contributing to life-saving research that improves care for critically ill and injured patients. The position focuses on coordinating and completing patient follow-up visits for patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), administering detailed research questionnaires, and ensuring accurate data collection and entry for trauma research studies. The team supports trauma research initiatives at the Charlotte campus, aiming for research excellence and improved patient outcomes. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year experience; or, an equivalent education and experience.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Works independently abstracting records with high level of accuracy and above average efficiency rate of expected quota.
  • Shows satisfactory performance of additional independent study related duties.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Can effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical research setting.

  • Coursework in anatomy & physiology and medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Independently abstracts and interprets pertinent data from medical records with an average level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of study protocol, diseases, medical terminology and pharmaceutical drugs to make informed decisions regarding patient hospitalizations.
  • Reads, understands and abstracts information from diagnostic reports and procedures.
  • Participates in quality control reviews.
  • Resolves problems related to data queries sent by the coordinating center.
  • Attends training for annual re-certification programs, attends conferences for continuing education, attends and represents the WFUHS site at abstractor training and conference calls.
  • Communicates effectively and timely with the coordinating center.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Coordinating and completing patient follow-up visits for patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
  • Administering detailed research questionnaires.
  • Ensuring accurate data collection and entry for trauma research studies.
