About The Position

The Research Coordinator will work under the supervision of Dr. Larry Lynd in the Lynd Lab team, within the Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE), to support the design, coordination, and execution of research projects in health economics, pharmacoepidemiology, early Health Technology Assessment, and outcomes research. The incumbent will play a central role in coordinating the Epidemiology Pillar research activities in the Canadian Prospective Cohort Study (CanProCo study) aimed at understanding the progression of multiple sclerosis. The incumbent will also be involved in other Lynd Lab research projects and activities, including grant application and management, budget management, protocol development, ethics and data access processes, data collection and management and contributing to analysis and dissemination of findings. The position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary investigators, trainees, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of two years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • University degree in Health Sciences or relevant discipline plus minimum of two years of related experience.
  • Experience in epidemiology with a micro/health economics background is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in research and statistical analysis in basic epidemiology
  • Experience with publications, grant writing, and the preparation of data access requests preferred.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Detail oriented, effective oral and written communication, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience in qualitative research methods would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day activities of the CanProCo Epidemiology Pillar co-led by Dr. Lynd, including work planning, timelines, budget management, deliverables and communication across the 5 academic MS sites in Canada and central study team.
  • Support protocol development, amendments and operational documentation for the CanProCo Epidemiology Pillar, translating research initiatives and concepts into written documentation.
  • Manage data access and linkage activities, including applications to Population Data BC, Health Data Platform BC and other related bodies.
  • Evaluating, designing, developing, preparing and coordinating inter- and trans-disciplinary grants, research, and academic proposals, letters of intent, background documentation, ethics submissions, program rationales and other reports.
  • Liaise with the UBC Office of Research Services and the University Industry Liaison Office to facilitate ethics and grant applications.
  • Coordinate and participate in the development and submission of grant applications including the collection of relevant grant information, research budgets, statistics and curriculum vitaes.
  • Manage data access and ethics submissions, renewals and amendments for CanProCo and other Lynd Lab studies.
  • Manage grant finances for all Lynd Lab projects, including developing financial forecasts, monitoring expenditures against budgets, reconciling accounts, and preparing internal and external expense reports in coordination with UBC Finance, the Office of Research Services, and funding agencies.
  • Collaborate with investigators within and outside of CORE, nationally and internationally, in the completion of research projects and development and submission of research grants.
  • Coordinate and participate in the preparation of conference presentations, academic manuscripts and technical reports as required for CanProCo and Lynd Lab.
  • Participate and contribute to research rounds and related activities.
  • Coordinate the planning of special projects and research-related events for Lynd Lab and CanProCo.
  • Support research program website development and maintenance.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the CanProCo Epi-Health Economics pillar and the Lynd Lab’s portfolio in rare diseases, multiple sclerosis and eHTA platform.
