About The Position

The Research Coordinator II will work with Principal Investigators (PIs) and laboratory personnel to ensure the efficient generation and submission of protocols and protocol amendments to IACUC, IRB, and EH&S to support research project completion. This role involves liaising with staff and faculty in these offices to streamline the protocol review process. The coordinator will be responsible for understanding and ensuring compliance with all required laboratory regulations, including ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State, and Federal guidelines. They will maintain accurate records and legal documentation as required by institutional policies, such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies. Additionally, the role supports the submission and compliance of licenses and registrations for substances and materials necessary for biomedical research. The position also involves managing ordering processes for cost-effective grant funding use, maintaining lab supply inventory, researching and evaluating new products, comparing and negotiating vendor prices, and ordering reagents and materials. The coordinator will also handle travel arrangements for laboratory personnel and generate travel authorizations. In terms of laboratory operations support, the role assists in experiments for developing and validating new gene therapies, trains lab staff in related methods, provides consultation and guidance, instructs on lab equipment use and maintenance, oversees record keeping, aids the PI in data organization, and prepares reports and graphs. For animal care, the coordinator will assist in maintaining the mouse colony and managing mouse strains, potentially including genotyping. They will be responsible for the performance and oversight of pre- and post-operative animal care, possibly including rodent surgical procedures, and coordinate animal care between the lab and institutional staff. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Works with PIs and laboratory personnel to efficiently generate and submit protocols and protocol amendments to IACUC, IRB, and EH&S to support research project completion.
  • Liaises with staff and faculty (veterinarians) in those offices to promote efficiency of process to ensure smooth and timely protocol review.
  • Responsible for understanding and compliance with all required laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines, maintains accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies such as biological, chemical, and radiation safety policies.
  • Supports submission and compliance of licenses/registrations for substance and materials needed to engage in biomedical research with specific substances/materials.
  • Manage ordering processes to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of grant funding; maintain lab supply inventory to ensure supplies are available for scheduled research projects; researches and evaluates new products, compares and negotiates vendor prices.
  • Orders reagents and materials to support lab operations.
  • Follows-through with procedures required of the University to document and reconcile those transactions, including within myUFMarket and UFGo.
  • Works within the guidelines of the Travel office to book travel for laboratory personnel and generate travel authorizations as needed.
  • Supports the direction of lab staff to aid in experiments to develop and validate new gene therapies to treat diseases of the muscle; trains lab staff in related methods; provides consultation, guidance; provides proper instruction on lab equipment use and maintenance; provides oversight to ensure accurate and thorough record keeping; aids the PI in the organization of data; prepares reports and graphs as requested by the PI.
  • Assists in maintaining mouse colony and efficient management of mouse strains, including possibly genotyping of mouse lines.
  • Responsible for performance and oversight of pre- and post-operative animal care as needed, including possibly rodent surgical procedures.
  • Coordinates animal care between the lab and institutional animal care staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
