About The Position

This position supports research projects by ensuring compliance with regulations, managing laboratory operations, and assisting with experiments. The role involves coordinating with various institutional offices (IACUC, IRB, EH&S), managing ordering and inventory, supporting lab staff in gene therapy research, and overseeing animal care and colony management. The Research Coordinator II will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and ensuring adherence to all relevant guidelines and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Proven ability to develop laboratory SOPs for rodent experimentation and care.
  • Proven ability to maintain training records.
  • Proven ability to ensure compliance with federal and institutional animal care guidelines/policies.
  • Proficiency in mouse and rat handling, special injection and surgical techniques, aseptic procedures.
  • Ability in crafting regulatory protocols for IACUC, EHS, and IRB, including fluency in goIACUC and LATCH.
  • Working knowledge of biology, including gene therapeutics, adeno associated viruses (AAV), muscle, immunohistochemistry, PCR.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory equipment purpose and use, including microscopes, centrifuges, and PCR machines.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and submit protocols and protocol amendments to IACUC, IRB, and EH&S.
  • Liaise with staff and faculty in regulatory offices to ensure timely protocol review.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory regulations such as ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State and Federal guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and legal documentation required by institutional policies.
  • Support submission and compliance of licenses/registrations for substances and materials.
  • Manage ordering processes for efficient and cost-effective use of grant funding.
  • Maintain lab supply inventory.
  • Research and evaluate new products, compare and negotiate vendor prices.
  • Order reagents and materials to support lab operations.
  • Document and reconcile transactions within myUFMarket and UFGo.
  • Book travel for laboratory personnel and generate travel authorizations.
  • Aid in experiments to develop and validate new gene therapies.
  • Train lab staff in related methods.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to lab staff.
  • Provide instruction on lab equipment use and maintenance.
  • Oversee accurate and thorough record keeping.
  • Assist the PI in the organization of data.
  • Prepare reports and graphs as requested by the PI.
  • Assist in maintaining mouse colony and efficient management of mouse strains, including possibly genotyping.
  • Perform and oversee pre- and post-operative animal care, including possibly rodent surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate animal care between the lab and institutional animal care staff.
