About the position
Shape Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with molecular biology experience to join their Cell and Vector Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing and executing cloning strategies, as well as experience with PCR, bacterial transformations, DNA preparation, and Sanger sequencing prep. Diligent notebook keeping and effective communication skills are also desired. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the critical function of the Research department in a rapidly growing biotechnology startup.
Responsibilities
- Routinely conduct maxi and giga scale plasmid DNA preparations
- Execute multiple part Golden Gate and Gibson cloning assemblies
- Routinely purify RNA from in-vitro assays for cDNA generation
- Conduct qPCR and ddPCR
- Effectively organize time and resources to meet deadlines
- Prepare samples for Sanger, Nanopore, and Illumina sequencing
- Effectively communicate results to cross-functional teams and team members
- Diligently maintain an electronic lab notebook
- Maintain mammalian cell culture and conduct plasmid transfections
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology or a related discipline
- 0-2 years of experience in a research or biotech setting
- Experience with PCR, bacterial transformations, DNA preparation, and Sanger sequencing prep
- Capable of independently designing and executing cloning strategies including Gibson and Golden Gate
- Diligent notebook keeping
- Ability to communicate accurately and precisely
- Experience with maxi and giga scale plasmid DNA preparations
- Experience with RNA purification from in-vitro assays for cDNA generation
- Experience with qPCR and ddPCR
- Ability to effectively organize time and resources to meet deadlines
- Experience with Sanger, Nanopore, and Illumina sequencing
- Ability to effectively communicate results to cross-functional teams and team members
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and plasmid transfections
- Analytical thinking skills to solve complex problems

- Salary range of $61,000 - $98,000
- Additional compensation may include annual target bonus and/or sign-on bonus, equity grant, and relocation bonus
