About The Position

The Research Associate under supervision will be responsible for managing and completing an array of natural resources research projects across a variety of funding sources (state, federal, private, etc.). Texas A&M AgriLife is comprised of the following Texas A&M University System members: Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University, Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Wildlife Sciences, Rangeland Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, etc.)
  • Two years of related professional experience.

  • Relevant field experience through internships, study abroad, employment.
  • Experience with GIS applications and basic geospatial analysis skills.
  • Ability to conduct field surveys in adverse weather conditions for extended times.
  • Ability to travel for up to 40% of the year
  • Experience with plant and animal surveys in desert and grassland ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, technical, and field equipment.
  • Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to curate and manage data and perform other computer related tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement.

  • Ability to multitask.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute field surveys as well as compile and summarize results into scientific and clientele-oriented publications.
  • Seasonally frequent travel to field sites that are in-state and out of state will be required.
  • Assist and oversee an array of natural resources survey activities, including avian survey, vegetation surveys, mammal surveys, and other surveys as needed.
  • Conduct surveys using camera and acoustic devices and process/maintain data.
  • Assist with maintenance of field equipment, data entry, and data management.
  • Write, submit, and process environmental work plans and final reports.
  • Assist with environmental sampling, monitoring, or remediation in support of DOD/Military installation compliance with the NEPA, Sikes, Endangered Species, and Migratory Bird Treaty Acts.
  • Other job duties as required.
