About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department (CBD) is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to studying biological systems using computational methods. Faculty and researchers collaborate across fields such as computer science, biology, and statistics to tackle complex biological questions. Their work spans diverse areas including genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational neuroscience, driving innovation at the intersection of computation and life sciences. We are seeking a Research Associate to join the team. This role will assist in the development and execution of research projects including experiment design, analysis of data collected and writing up experiment results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • At least one year of research experience required.
  • Must possess strong programming skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills needed.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Working with large-scale biological data, developing; implementing algorithms, computational tools, or frameworks
  • Conduct literature reviews to stay updated on the latest methodologies in Bioimaging analysis
  • May program software in support of job functions.
  • Attends project meetings.
  • Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
  • Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writes technical reports.
  • May build and validate quantitative models.
  • Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures.
  • Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Uses a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect and record results or observations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
