About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Ray and Stephanie Lane Computational Biology Department (CBD) is seeking a Research Associate to assist in the development and execution of research projects. This role involves experiment design, data analysis, and writing up experiment results in a challenging and interesting work environment. CBD is known for its interdisciplinary approach, combining computer science, biology, and statistics to address complex biological questions in areas like genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational neuroscience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-3 years of research experience.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

Responsibilities

  • Uses a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect and record results or observations.
  • Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures.
  • Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writes technical reports.
  • May build and validate quantitative models.
  • Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
  • May program software in support of job functions.
  • Attends project meetings.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
