About The Position

The Integrated Primary Care Systems Lab is a research lab dedicated to strengthening primary care systems by generating policy-relevant evidence that advances the quintuple aim. Based at the University of Toronto and led by Dr. Monica Aggarwal, the Lab generates applied research that informs real-world primary care reform in Canada and internationally. Its work is anchored in the Aggarwal-Hutchison Framework, an empirically grounded model that defines the structural attributes of high-performing primary care systems. Reporting to the Director, Dr. Monica Aggarwal, the Research Associate will be involved in the design and delivery of a comprehensive evaluation of primary care practices, working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, research staff, and health system partners.

Requirements

  • PhD in health services research, public health, health policy, epidemiology, or a related discipline.
  • 2-4 years of post-PhD experience in health services and policy research.
  • Solid publication record in primary care, health systems, or health policy research, commensurate with career stage.
  • Experience in conducting mixed-methods health services research projects, including qualitative and quantitative study design, data collection and analysis.
  • Experience working in primary care research, program evaluation, or health policy environments, including direct engagement with policymakers, clinicians, and patient partners.
  • Strong communication skills and experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals and research proposals to granting agencies and prospective industry partners.
  • Proficiency with systematic and scoping reviews, qualitative and quantitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, R, SPSS, or Stata, REDcap, Qualtrics, Covidence).
  • Experience preparing research ethics board applications and managing multi-site data collection.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian primary care policy landscape.
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and deliver on multiple projects concurrently while working effectively under tight timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design a logic model, prepare a research protocol, and prepare research ethics applications.
  • Initiate, design, and lead a comprehensive evaluation of primary care practices.
  • Design surveys and interview questionnaires, manage data collection, conduct data analysis, and present results.
  • Conduct literature reviews, scoping and systematic reviews and knowledge synthesis.
  • Supervise and delegate research staff work to support the evaluation and develop and deliver training to both research staff and support staff as required.
  • Manage and oversee project activities, define roles and timelines, monitor progress, and provide guidance to research and administrative staff.
  • Prepare and submit grant applications and manage associated timelines and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee and lead knowledge translation and communications activities.
  • Co-author scientific manuscripts for academic publication and prepare reports as required.
  • Other administrative or coordination tasks as required.
