The Department of Physiology and Cell Biology seeks a Research Associate to contribute to the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in a foundational biological and health science laboratory investigating mitochondrial function and dysfunction, cardiac cell biology, and mechanisms of cardiac disease. The role involves advanced molecular, cellular, and other specialized laboratory techniques, including mitochondrial isolation and functional assays; measuring mitochondrial redox state, reactive oxygen species production, and oxidative stress; mitochondrial electrophysiology; fluorescence and holographic microscopy; and electron microscopy image analysis. The Research Associate collects, analyzes, and interprets research data; helps develop and refine methodologies, experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical approaches; and establishes appropriate controls, criteria, and research standards. The role critically reviews relevant scientific literature, supports preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations for national and international conferences, contributes to project documentation, and assists the principal investigator with grant proposals for new or renewal extramural funding. Additional responsibilities include coordinating laboratory activities and work assignments for lab personnel, overseeing routine maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment, and performing other tasks as assigned to advance the research mission.
