About The Position

Ventum Financial Corp. is seeking a Mining Associate to support its Mining and Minerals coverage. Ventum Financial Corp. is a leading independent, Canadian-owned and operated Capital Markets and Private Client Services firm, known for its client-centered approach and entrepreneurial spirit. Ventum was formed as a result of the merger between Echelon Wealth Partners and PI Financial in June 2024. Ventum Capital Markets is a premium full-service broker dealer offering investment banking, advisory, equity research, institutional sales and trading, and retail distribution to small-cap and mid-sized public and private companies in a wide variety of sectors across Canada.

Requirements

• Intellectual curiosity, the ability to learn quickly, and an exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to manage a heavy workload, meet stringent deadlines, and perform under pressure (sometimes for extended periods of time)
• Superior business writing, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Excellent spreadsheet and financial analysis/modelling skills. Experience with integrated, three statement modelling.
• Willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and put in the hours (often on short notice) - evening and weekend work is often required
• Undergraduate degree in Mining or Metallurgical Engineering (preferred), Geology, Finance, or Business
• Work experience in or a knowledge of the mining sector
• Work experience or training in financial modeling with integrated, three-statement models along with DCF analysis

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of Capital IQ, Factset or Bloomberg would be an asset
• Professional certifications (MBA, CFA, P.Eng./P.Geo.) are highly regarded
• Work experience in or a knowledge of Canadian capital markets is an asset
• 1 to 2 years of experience as a Research Associate or similar role is an asset although not required

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the preparation of financial models to forecast quarterly and annual earnings, including maintaining and enhancing financial models and databases
• Compiling and analyzing relevant company and industry information, originating from a broad variety of sources (such as financial databases, industry publications and tradeshows/conferences)
• Assisting in the preparation of company and industry research reports (e.g. quarterly reporting initiatives and marketing packages)
• Writing of research reports
