About The Position

An affiliate of Colossal Biosciences is seeking a stem cell biologist interested in manipulating avian embryonic stem cells. The Research Associate will work closely with laboratory team members to develop and improve protocols for avian stem cell culture, genome editing, and reintroduction of stem cells into embryos using advanced technologies. The position is based in Dallas, Texas, and relocation assistance is available.

Requirements

Experience with embryonic stem cell cultures.
Experience manipulating embryos under a microscope.
Experience deriving, culturing, and propagating cell lines, and with transfection methodologies.
Experience in molecular biology, such as nucleic acid and protein extraction and gel electrophoresis.
Experience with flow cytometry, immunostaining, and cell microscopy.
Strong written and oral communication skills and creative problem-solving skills.
BA, BS, MA, or MS in biological sciences, cell biology, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or a related scientific field.

Responsibilities

Culture avian embryonic stem cells; test novel cell culture conditions; transfect cells; sort monoclonal cell lines; and screen and expand cells using current protocols and newly developed approaches.
Collect avian blastodiscs from embryos using a dissection microscope and derive stem cell cultures.
Characterize and perform quality control on avian stem cell cultures.
Inject stem cells into avian blastodiscs.
Work with team members to assess editing efficiency using next-generation sequencing approaches.
Attend laboratory meetings and prepare reports and presentations on project progress.
Maintain strong organization and excellent laboratory records.
