Research Associate - Metabolomics/Lipidomics

BPG Bio, IncWaltham, MA
$65,000 - $75,000

About The Position

The Metabolomics/Lipidomics Research Associate will have experience in analytical chemistry, preferably in the space of metabolite and/or small molecule analysis using LC/MS and LC/MS/MS platforms. The Research Associate will perform targeted and nontargeted bioanalysis and assist with the development of novel methods to support the platform.

Requirements

  • Requires a B.S. (0-2 years of experience) or M.S. (with 0-1 years of experience) in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, preferably in the analysis of small molecules by mass spectrometry.
  • Familiarity with core chromatography and mass spectrometry concepts, including principles of reversed-phase LC and HILIC, high-resolution/accurate mass strategies, structural elucidation by MS/MS, and isotope dilution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a proven track record of technical and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record-keeping.
  • Must demonstrate fully professional level requiring independent work in metabolomics research and development.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required for preparation of reports for management.

Nice To Haves

  • Broad understanding of metabolomics/lipidomics applications and biochemistry in the areas of systems biology, neurodegeneration, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer is a plus.
  • Experience with common sample preparation techniques is preferred but not required, including solid phase extraction (SPE), liquid-liquid extraction, and protein precipitation for biofluids, tissues, and cells.
  • Ability to prepare manuscripts for presentation, publication in scientific journals, and regulatory requirements is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, perform, analyze, and report experiments.
  • Perform mass spectrometry-based assays and studies focused on metabolite analysis of diverse samples from the biological matrices.
  • Laboratory analytical instrumentation routine maintenance.
  • Daily QA/QC, system suitability testing, method development, and validated SOP implementation
  • Develop SOPs.
  • Manage external collaborations.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
