About The Position

The Noble and Jiang Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms of lung inflammation and fibrosis, the role of lung stem cells in pulmonary fibrosis, and host defense in lung inflammation and fibrosis. The Research Associate II will perform routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures, developing technical expertise relevant to research projects. This role involves participation in all aspects of the research process, including investigation, technical work, testing/validation of results, and reporting findings. The associate will perform experimental protocols, observe safety standards, assist in data preparation for publication/presentation, and contribute to general laboratory maintenance. The position specifically investigates molecular mechanisms of lung fibrosis and participates in projects involving innate immune, stem cells, extracellular matrix, resident mesenchymal cells, and fibroblast lineages in lung injury and repair, utilizing experimental approaches such as molecular biology, genetically modified mice, lineage tracing, lung injury models, prospective isolation and organoid culture of lung stem cells, single cell RNA-seq, immunology, and genomics studies. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities over peers, but will orient lower-level staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures.
  • Develop technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects.
  • Participate in research activities involving investigation, technical work, testing/validation of results, and report findings.
  • Perform a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of laboratory research projects.
  • Observe and follow safety standards and procedures.
  • Assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
  • Assist in general laboratory maintenance.
  • Investigate molecular mechanisms of lung fibrosis.
  • Participate in research projects including the role of innate immune, stem cells, extracellular matrix, resident mesenchymal cells, and fibroblast lineages in lung injury and repair.
  • Assist with animal husbandry.
  • Maintain lab equipment and related records.
  • Transport, process, and log samples.
  • Maintain computer database with relevant clinical information.
  • Perform lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.
  • Maintain stocks of general lab materials, and place orders for equipment and supplies.
  • Assist new students and fellows at the laboratory.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, and assist in identifying and troubleshooting of unexpected results.
  • Order laboratory supplies and support laboratory operations.
  • Assist in the operation of specialized equipment, as required by the area of research.
  • Orient research laboratory assistants or lower level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations and routine procedures.
