About The Position

Implements, coordinates, and administers human subjects research data collection measures, to include but not limited to demographic and medical assessments/reviews, nutritional surveys, muscular function and strength evaluations, anthropomorphic assessments, dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and/or self-report physical activity assessments and accelerometry. Participates in delivery of study interventions, to include nutrition, weight loss, spontaneous physical activity and/or structured exercise protocols. Participates in subject eligibility screening/determination. Interaction with study participants is substantial, however additional responsibilities such as adverse event management and reporting may be required. In addition to study subjects, interacts with other departmental or University staff, study project manager, and Principal Investigator (PI); may employ independent decision-making with regards to implementation of study protocols, as appropriate. Position is grant-funded (1 yr) and subject to annual renewal by sponsor. This position is not eligible for sponsorship of non-immigrant or immigrant visa status through Wake Forest University. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field.
  • NIH-approved training in the protection of human subjects required within three months of hire.
  • General knowledge of human subjects research procedures and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster relationships with individuals who have diverse educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with word processing software (preferably Word) and spreadsheet applications; familiarity with database applications and statistical software.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Health & Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field.
  • Prior human subjects research experience.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the study project manager and PI, may conduct eligibility pre-screening via telephone or in-person interviews.
  • Schedules participant data collection visits and coordinates with other study personnel to ensure efficient collection of study data while minimizing participant burden.
  • In compliance with study protocols, collects, enters/downloads, transforms, cleans, and/or manages human subjects research data. Exercises judgment to revise or adapt protocols as required.
  • In compliance with study protocols, delivers and manages research-related nutrition, weight loss, physical activity, and/or exercise interventions for adults. Exercises independent judgment to revise or adapt protocols within the context of participant capabilities and study aims.
  • At discretion of project manager and/or PI, may monitor subject compliance with study data collection protocols and prepare individual progress reports for participants.
  • May administer contact protocol for follow-up with non-adherent study participants.
  • May organize, compile, and enter study data into web-based data entry application(s) and perform data verification and “cleaning” functions.
  • Uses professional judgment to ensure the safety of study participants and ensure operational efficiency. Makes independent decisions concerning participants and special situations related to study intervention(s).
  • Complies with Institutional policies, study protocols and procedures, and DHHS and IRB guidelines for human subjects research.
  • May oversee work of student workers.
  • Performs planning, organizing, or administrative functions in support of and necessary to the successful completion of study protocol(s).
