About The Position

The University of Florida GALLOP research team is seeking a part-time OPS employee to assist with field study visits and research activities involving horses. This position will support the research team with study-related procedures, animal handling, biological sample collection, equipment setup, data collection, and general field visit logistics. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working around horses, and able to work effectively in a field-based research environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work safely and comfortably around horses.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Reliable transportation to the University of Florida and ability to travel with the research team to field study locations as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling horses.
  • Experience in veterinary, animal science, laboratory, or research settings.
  • Experience collecting biological samples or performing basic laboratory procedures.
  • Familiarity with equine health and anatomy.
  • Previous experience working in a team-based research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and execution of field study visits at participating equine facilities.
  • Assist with safe handling and restraint of horses during research procedures.
  • Assist with collection, labeling, processing, and storage of biological samples according to study protocols.
  • Assist with placement and use of research equipment and monitoring devices.
  • Record study observations and research data accurately and consistently.
  • Assist with study supplies, equipment, and vehicle preparation before and after field visits.
  • Maintain organized research materials and ensure equipment and supplies are cleaned and properly stored following visits.
  • Follow all study protocols, animal welfare requirements, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with study personnel and assist with general research tasks as needed.
  • Travel with the research team to field study locations as needed.
