Research assistant to work ongoing experiments using animal models of aging and neurodegenerative disease to evaluate potential neurotherapeutics. The position will involve expertise in current methods for handling and maintaining in-house lepidoptera colony (Manduca sexta), including life cycle staging, selection of breeding pairs, transitions to stage-specific feeding stations, and monitoring for developmental abnormalities. The role also includes mouse handling and colony maintenance, cell culture experience, specifically culturing of rodent primary neurons, processing of human blood samples, maintenance of biorepository, and shipping of samples to other investigators. Personnel will need to work at lab benches and desks for up to 3 hours at a time. Ability to perform repetitive lab manipulations and move lab equipment under 25 lbs with accommodation. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required and will be provided. Must be able to communicate easily with co-workers, assist and instruct other lab members with new methods.
