About The Position
The Department of Ophthalmology at West Virginia University's Health Science Center is seeking a Research Assistant I to support Dr. Joel Palko's research in iris registration. This role will investigate how ocular diseases and iris shape affect iris registration techniques. The primary responsibilities include collecting and organizing iris images, extracting clinical data, and analyzing baseline image characteristics. The position is part of the School of Medicine and focuses on glaucoma research.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of six (6) months of relevant experience
- Ability to take initiative on projects and problem-solve
- Attention to detail, strong organization skills
- Ability to write manuscripts for publication
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Responsibilities
- Iris image collection using the TD-100 camera
- Clinical data collection and organization, including demographic (age, sex, race) and clinical ocular information for each patient.
- Baseline image analysis and annotation, collecting iris color, pupil size, and light exposure/brightness for all images.
- Assistance with iris coding/filtering and calculation of Hamming distance before and after iris interventions.
- Preparation of manuscripts.
- Documenting, analyzing, and presenting experimental results and discussing findings.
