About The Position

This is a new position for a Research Assistant (CUPE) within the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Economics. The role is for the 2026 Fall Semester, with a work start date of September 1, 2026, and an end date of December 22, 2026. The total work hours for this position are 130. The research assistant will be responsible for creating a longitudinal dataset of Canadian workers using restricted access data, merging additional datasets, cleaning and analyzing the data, developing reproducible scripts in R, and meeting with professors to document progress and seek guidance.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a graduate degree in economics.
  • Good basis in coding in R and RStudio.
  • Ability to communicate the data cleaning tasks to the professors effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data cleaning with R and RStudio.
  • Experience with using version control softwares such as Git, and online repository tools such as GitHub.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Creating a longitudinal dataset of Canadian workers using restricted access data at the uOttawa RDC.
  • Merging additional datasets to the worker panel.
  • Cleaning and analysis the resulting longitudinal data.
  • Developing reproducible scripts using the statistical language R.
  • Meeting with the professors to document the progress in the tasks and proactively seek guidance if needed.
