Requirements

  • BA or BSc in the field of Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Genetics, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of related lab experience as undergraduate research laboratory or equivalent
  • Experience in mouse breeding and behavior
  • Course work in biology, mathematics and statistics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, be collegial and be professional.
  • Ability to use computers for data analysis
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Reliability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Some evenings, weekends and holidays may be required for animal care

Responsibilities

  • The Carney Institute for Brain Science is looking for a Research Assistant to support the lab of Dr. Diane Lipscombe and the Brown Rodent Behavior Phenotyping Core (RBPC).
  • The research in the Lipscombe lab studies calcium ion channels in health and in mouse models of disease.
  • The RBPC lab utilizes mouse genetic models to define behavioral phenotypes associated with gene manipulation.
  • The Research Assistant will maintain the RBPC, oversee reservations to use the core, and provide general support of researchers who use the core.
  • The Research Assistant will also support the Lipscombe Lab with ordering, general upkeep of lab supplies, managing the lab’s mouse colonies, and performing some behavioral experiments in the RBPC.
  • The Research Assistant will have the ability to perform these duties independently but with regular guidance from the principal investigator and laboratory members.
  • This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 9/30/2027 which may be extended based upon available funding.
