About The Position

The Vlaisavljevich Lab is seeking a motivated and creative research assistant to explore the use of focused ultrasound (FUS) for biospecimen processing and biomolecule release. This role involves conducting hands-on experiments to evaluate and optimize the FUS technology, including studies on tissue ablation, quantification and optimization of biomolecule release, and assessment of biomolecule yield and quality. The position also requires performing molecular assays such as PCR and gel electrophoresis to verify biomolecule integrity and validate the performance of the focused ultrasound process. This position is ideal for individuals interested in applying focused ultrasound to advance molecular biology workflows and contribute to the development of innovative sample preparation technologies.

Requirements

  • B.S. in biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., pipetting, sample preparation, DNA quantification, PCR, gel electrophoresis)
  • Work history showing strong teamwork and communication skills
  • History of an ability to plan and conduct experiments independently or as part of a small interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail in data collection, record-keeping, and documentation of experimental procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages for operation of FUS systems
  • Experience developing or operating prototype instrumentation, particularly systems involving high-voltage electronics, acoustic devices, or fluidic systems
  • Familiarity with experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation of quantitative results

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on experiments to evaluate and optimize focused ultrasound (FUS) for biospecimen processing and biomolecule release.
  • Perform studies on tissue ablation.
  • Quantify and optimize biomolecule release using FUS.
  • Assess biomolecule yield and quality after FUS treatment.
  • Perform molecular assays such as PCR and gel electrophoresis.
  • Verify biomolecule integrity.
  • Validate the performance of the focused ultrasound process.

Benefits

  • Eligible for overtime
