About The Position

This role is a part-time position supporting the R&D Chemistry team. The Research Assistant will contribute to polymer synthesis, analytical testing, and data generation. Responsibilities include coordinating sample preparation, monitoring reactions, collecting and documenting results, and collaborating with scientists to advance project milestones while ensuring safety and compliance. The position is ideal for someone currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in a related scientific or engineering field who has basic laboratory experience.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at a University, majoring in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related Life Science or Engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years experience and/or coursework involving basic chemical operations, such as sample preparation, reaction monitoring (e.g., TLC, NMR), and other routine laboratory operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with analytical techniques and data interpretation, e.g., NMR, GPC, and pH meter.
  • Hands-on experience in small-molecule and/or polymer synthesis and characterization in a pharmaceutical, CRO, or academic setting.
  • Experience using analytic techniques such as pKa measurement, NMR, FTIR, UV-vis, etc.
  • Ability to present data clearly to cross-functional teams and contribute to project milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute chemical reactions, including calculating stoichiometry, weighing materials, setting up conditions, and monitoring progress using techniques like TLC/NMR.
  • Purify products using methods such as flash chromatography, crystallization, or precipitation.
  • Perform routine analyses using NMR, GPC, pH measurements, and related techniques.
  • Maintain detailed real-time documentation of procedures and results in electronic notebooks.
  • Prepare transfection complexes and measure properties like hydrodynamic diameter and zeta potential when applicable.
  • Log characterization requests, track experiments, and record data in a centralized database.
  • Create concise data presentations and share raw data with stakeholders.
  • Perform daily lab upkeep, including glassware care, inventory management of solvents/reagents/consumables, PPE compliance, safety checks, and general housekeeping.
  • Participate in group meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
