About The Position

The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the research department in clinical trial conduct and related activities. The Cancer & Hematology Centers are dedicated to help, healing, and hope for cancer patients and their families, providing advanced treatments, innovative research, and compassionate care. The team consists of committed and caring health care professionals, including oncology-certified nurses, social workers, experienced lab and pharmacy personnel, and a psychologist. The organization brings breakthrough advances from prominent hospitals and ongoing cancer research to its regional centers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Associates degree in life sciences (preferred) or equivalent.
  • Research knowledge
  • Current driver’s license (must not be suspended)

Responsibilities

  • Processes, ships, and catalogs biological samples for central laboratories.
  • Monitors and maintains current clinical trial supply levels; processes shipment arrivals and re-orders as needed.
  • Reviews and utilizes protocols as guides for study activities.
  • Transports study investigational product and/or clinical trial supplies to CHCWM satellite sites (Big Rapids, Holland, Lacks, Muskegon) as needed for patient treatments (travel will be reimbursed). Travel could be up to 30% of time.
  • Assists in the proper maintenance of current/pending regulatory documents in conjunction with regulatory coordinator.
  • Assist in filing/organizing clinical research essential documentation.
  • Attends meetings and briefings regarding clinical studies as required.
  • Assists in generating and maintaining department metric reports for the department manager and/or director of research.
  • Functions as a team member by expanding his/her responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the research department. This may include assisting clinical research coordinators at the CHCWM satellite sites as needed.
  • Maintain organized and easily accessible records of all meeting minutes and related documents.
  • Communicates and interacts with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patient services and CHCWM staff morale.
  • This employee has access to medical records. The parts of the medical record s/he needs to references to perform his/her job are as follows: Lab Information System, Pharmacy Information System, Entire Chart/Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and Electronic Billing System (EBS).
