About The Position

The Research Assistant (RA) will contribute to a project focused on increasing access to fintech solutions in Africa, with a particular emphasis on financial services for youth and women. The RA's primary output will be a report for stakeholders, sponsors, and partners, detailing findings on fintech accessibility. Key responsibilities include engaging with partners to define project goals and conducting research on current practices and innovative payment systems, with a focus on Ghana and Nigeria. The project will receive academic oversight and leverage the SGI team's connections with relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Enrolled as a student at McGill University during the period of this research assistantship work.
  • Available to work from the end of Winter term 2026 through the Fall term 2026 (ending Dec 2026).
  • Strong interest in innovation in African markets.
  • Technical background or curiosity and willingness to develop an understanding of key technologies related to payment solutions (and related developments).
  • Innovative and proactive mindset.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based/located.
  • Requires English communication both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior coursework or experience in fintech-related topics is a plus.

Responsibilities
