About The Position

We are seeking a motivated undergraduate researcher to support critical projects in the lab during the fall 2026 and spring 2027 terms. This role focuses on the development of sophisticated genetic tools for gut commensals—specifically Bacteroides—to advance our work in living therapeutics and environmental diagnostics. You will be part of a high-growth academic environment, bridging the gap between foundational synthetic biology and translational medicine, while gaining experience with professional-grade laboratory automation and documentation systems.

Requirements

  • Advanced Molecular Cloning: Direct experience with plasmid purification, PCR optimization, and Golden Gate Assembly.
  • Specialized Microbiology: Demonstrated proficiency in anaerobic microbiology techniques, specifically bacterial conjugation and the operation of anaerobic chambers.
  • Technical Rigor: Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow complex Standard Operating Procedures independently.
  • Professionalism: Excellent organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining a collaborative, safe, and efficient laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex DNA assembly to support the design of synthetic genetic circuits, including troubleshooting assembly failures and verifying constructs via sequencing.
  • Maintain and manipulate bacterial cultures within a strictly anaerobic environment.
  • Assist with general lab maintenance, including the preparation of specialized anaerobic media and stock solutions.
  • Maintain meticulous, real-time records within the lab’s LIMS and present technical progress during weekly lab meetings.
