About The Position

The Urban Lab in the Department of Entomology at Penn State, University Park, seeks a highly motivated research assistant to perform field and lab-based research on spotted lanternfly behavior and biology to work 20-30 hours per week. The candidate will assist with the collection of experimental data on the University Park campus and when needed, in and around vineyards in areas of high infestation in eastern Pennsylvania. The candidate will also assist in collecting behavioral and physiological data from insects (e.g., measuring insect body mass, imaging of tissue samples, conducting insect dissections, etc.). Duties will include assisting with lab based insect experiments, collecting insects, greenhouse plant care, rearing insect colonies, conducting behavioral and physiological assays, and performing general laboratory biology protocols.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle as part of job duties.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete a motor vehicle records check.
  • Must successfully complete background check(s) in accordance with University policies.

Responsibilities
