About The Position

The Research Assistant supports ARPA-H–funded research focused on bacterial immunotherapy for cancer. The Research Assistant will perform in vivo and in vitro experiments, including murine tumor models, bacterial culture and engineering, and immunological assays. The role involves executing experimental protocols, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting translational research efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, immunology, microbiology, or related field.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques in biology and immunology.
  • Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with animal models (mouse handling, injections).
  • Experience with flow cytometry or immunological assays.
  • Experience with bacterial culture or microbiology techniques.
  • Experience working in BSL-2 laboratory environments.
  • Experience in laboratory research (academic or industry).
  • Master’s degree in biology, immunology, microbiology, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of cell culture, molecular biology, or immunology techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct In Vivo Tumor Studies: Establish and monitor murine tumor models; perform injections (IV, intratumoral); monitor tumor growth and animal health; collect tissues at endpoint.
  • Perform Immunological and Molecular Assays: Conduct flow cytometry, ELISA, and cytokine assays; assist with RNA/protein analysis; process biological samples.
  • Perform Bacterial Culture and Experimental Preparation: Culture and maintain bacterial strains; prepare experimental reagents; ensure quality and sterility of materials.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Record experimental data; perform basic statistical analysis; organize and maintain datasets; prepare figures.
  • Laboratory Operations and Compliance: Maintain lab supplies and inventory; follow biosafety and IACUC protocols; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support Collaborative Research Activities: Assist with team projects; participate in lab meetings; contribute to experimental planning and troubleshooting.
