About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Research Assistant to join their team in the FORGE Lab. This role involves conducting research on control methods for additive manufacturing processes, developing and evaluating control strategies in simulated environments, and contributing to related publications. The ideal candidate will thrive in a challenging work environment and contribute to the department's focus areas in advanced manufacturing, bioengineering, computational engineering, energy and the environment, product design, and robotics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks
  • Foundational machine learning knowledge
  • Python proficiency
  • Successful background check

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research under PI supervision
  • Contribute to manuscripts and lab activities
  • Present results at lab meetings
  • Develop and evaluate control strategies for additive manufacturing processes in simulated environments
  • Build and maintain simulation environments and control formulations for experiments
  • Document methods and results for publications and technical reports
  • Other duties as assigned
