About The Position

The Ecohydrology Lab managed by Heidi Asbojrnsen and Matt Vadeboncoeur is seeking a summer research assistant to assist with projects related to the establishment of various agroforestry system types and with a project investigating forest drought sensitivity. Ability to travel to various field sites within the Durham-Epping-Madbury area is required. This position is supported by external sponsor funding, and continued employment is contingent upon the availability of those funds. The University of New Hampshire is an R1 Carnegie classification research institution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Forestry, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a research lab or similar work environment
  • Experience with tree identification
  • Experience with gardening or farm work
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to travel to various field sites within the Durham-Epping-Madbury area

Responsibilities

  • Field work (80%)
  • Data collection including dendrometer band measurements
  • Site preparation and plot layout (agroforestry experiments)
  • Site cleanup and decommissioning (drought experiment)
  • Lab work (20%)
  • Sample archiving, soil processing and analysis (grinding, drying, weighing, scanning, slide preparation, etc.)
