About The Position

Temple University's College of Liberal Arts Psychology and Neuroscience Department is searching for a Research Assistant. This position is primarily assisting with a NIH grant-funded project that uses fMRI to examine age-related differences in social and economic reward processing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate interest in decision neuroscience and aging, strong motivation, work ethic, and organizational skills. Flexibility in scheduling during some weekend and evening hours is required. Experience with fMRI data collection and analysis is preferred but can be learned on the job and will be weighed against other important qualities. This is an ideal position for a candidate looking to gain additional research experience before applying to graduate or medical school. The research associate will be an integral member of this scientific team and will have opportunities to earn authorship on publications and present posters at scientific meetings and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree psychology, neuroscience, economics, engineering or a related field by the start date.
  • At least 1 year’s research experience is required
  • Prior experience working human participants in lab-based research studies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Some experience managing or monitoring the work of others.
  • Comfortable giving presentations to small groups.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to administer study protocols as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fMRI data collection and analysis
  • Experience working with older adults and administering neuropsychological assessments
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS) to complete data analyses.
  • Demonstrated programing/scripting skills in Python and/or Matlab
  • Prior experience working with MRI

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with neuroimaging data collection, including participant preparation, MRI safety screening, administration of study protocols, and data-quality monitoring
  • Assisting with tACS, tDCS, and EEG data collection, including participant and equipment preparation, electrode placement, administration of approved protocols, and data-quality monitoring
  • Recruiting, screening, scheduling, and communicating with research participants of all ages (18-90+ years)
  • Administering and scoring neuropsychological assessments according to standardized procedures
  • Processing, quality-checking, and analyzing behavioral and neuroimaging data using established procedures
  • Supporting other lab members with participant visits, preparation of study materials, and routine project coordination
