About The Position

The Research Technician 2 will assist the graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in running experiments under their supervision. They will also assist in analyzing and interpreting experimental results and research data. The Research Technician 2 will work closely with the senior graduate students and postdoctoral fellow to assist with the ongoing research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assists graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in running experiments by performing specific tasks, such as recording data and observations using standardized techniques.
  • Under the supervision of a senior graduate student or postdoctoral fellow, uses standard techniques, equipment and protocols, well-established in the lab to acquire brain imaging and electrophysiological data from mice while they are performing a behavioral task.
  • Works closely with a graduate student to image neurotransmitter release in ex vivo mouse brain slice, following standard techniques and protocol.
  • Assists in analyzing and interpreting experimental results and research data by using standardized tools established in the lab to assemble and compile mouse behavioral and brain imaging data, creating electronic files for further data analysis.
  • Performs simple data analysis using tools established in the lab. Interpretation of results of these analyses will be generated together with the supervising graduate student or postdoctoral fellow.
  • Assists in performing postoperative monitoring of animals.
  • Operates, maintains and troubleshoots problems with standard equipment.
  • Prepares buffer, reagents, solutions, and related material for routine laboratory use.
  • May distribute work assignments to employees at lower classification levels and initiate new employees into routines, procedures and operation of equipment.
