About The Position

Temple University's College of Liberal Arts Psychology Department is searching for a Research Assistant to provide research support on a project funded by the National Science Foundation. This project is designed to create a comprehensive database of student strategies and errors on mathematical content from 4th grade through Algebra I, which can be systematically mined to identify and predict common patterns associated with particular types of problems. The Research Assistant will assist the principal investigator and co-investigators with research activities, including data coding of errors and strategies in student work on varied levels of mathematics assessments and assignments. Other duties will include lab management, data entry, management, and cleaning, assistance with preparing presentations, reports, and manuscripts, and assisting with literature reviews. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or a related field.
  • At least 6 months of related research experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and ability to follow research procedures.
  • Must be familiar with procedures and regulations regarding participant confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated MS Office skills and experience creating and managing databases in Excel.
  • Demonstrated professional phone skills and excellent written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years post-bachelor’s degree research assistant experience.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics in elementary and middle schools.
