About The Position

Fort Valley State University (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Research Assistant Professor of Agribusiness/Agricultural Economics. FVSU, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. The College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology (CAFST) is seeking an environmental economist for a 12-month non-tenure track research (100%) research assistant professor level to develop a nationally recognized research program in any area of Agribusiness. Specific areas of interest include agricultural marketing, agribusiness management, risk management, agricultural finance or other related areas. Research is expected to result in empirical reports that facilitate the decision-making process of policy makers and farmers and publications in leading academic journals.

Requirements

  • Ph. D. in agribusiness/agricultural economics or economics
  • Research experience related to agribusiness or agricultural economics in the United States with publications in refereed journal.
  • Demonstrated success in communicating research to a wide array of audiences.
  • Demonstrated record of writing extramural funding that supports and results in peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse of colleagues and student group.

Responsibilities

  • Write grant proposals and work diligently to obtain external funding.
  • Manage research project independently. Including design questionnaire, organizing surveys, conduct data analysis, organize workshops and seminars.
  • Apply economic, econometric, and statistical principles and concepts to conduct high quality research and analysis.
  • Present research results in various conferences and make publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Supervise research professionals and research assistants in the research group.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different science disciplines in and out of campus.
  • Provide leadership in agribusiness research issues by working with limited resource farmers in Georgia.
  • Other duties may be necessary for the successful performance of this position.
